About Textbooks
The University Store is the official textbook provider for Carnegie Mellon University. We provide products, services and programs designed to support a successful learning environment. Our buyers and management continuously research current trends in higher education in order to provide efficient and affordable options for acquiring faculty-adopted course materials. We accept cash, check, credit card and student account payment for  in-store purchases.

Buying Textbooks In-Store
Textbooks are available at competitive prices. The benefits of buying in-store include the convenience of having books for the first week of classes, avoiding shipping delays and eliminating the need to wait in long lines at the campus post office. Buying directly from the bookstore also ensures that you're buying the correct edition of the textbook you need.

Online Orders
With a credit card, you can purchase your course materials through our website and pick them up in the store within 1-2 business days. You will receive an email from a store associate when your order is ready to be picked up.

Renting
The University Store will not be offering rental titles for the Spring 2017 semester.  We will offer rentals in the future.  Please reach us at 412-268-5591 with any questions or concerns.

Textbook Returns

Textbooks can be returned within 3 business days of the purchase during the Add/Drop period. Textbooks can only be returned when accompanied with a receipt. If the textbook was in plastic wrap, the wrap can not be punctured or taken off to be eligible for return. After the Add/Drop period, all returns are at the discretion of our staff. If students drop classes beyond the Add/Drop period, they should provide proof of dropping the class to a store associate if they'd like to return their books. If you have a question about our return policy, please do not hesitate to reach us at 412-268-5591.

Textbook Buyback
We invite a textbook wholesale company to campus to put cash in the students' hands immediately, without the worries of shipping and waiting for a check or account deposit. Buyback happens periodically throughout the year.
If students would like to sell books, but buyback is no longer taking place, they can visit MBS Textbook Exchange for information on selling books.

Price Comparison Tool
In order to offer students the most comprehensive overview of available textbook options, we provide them with the Price Comparison Tool. Students can instantly compare pricing across many retailers including the Carnegie Mellon University Store, Amazon.com, Half.com and many others, simply by searching their course numbers. Amazon Prime and other loyalty program benefits are applicable at the time of purchase.

The price comparison tool is only available while we have books stocked in the store, usually in the weeks leading up to the beginning of the semester until shortly after the Add/Drop period ends. If you have questions about textbooks when Verbacompare is not available, feel free to call the bookstore.

Support Your Bookstore
The Carnegie Mellon University Store exists to serve its students. We strive to provide faculty-adopted textbooks, multiple buying options and information on making the best purchase decisions. The price comparison tool has made the University Store an affiliate to many of the other online booksellers. If you choose to buy through our portal, the bookstore benefits from a small commission.
