Frequently Asked Questions
How Can I Buy Textbooks?
The University Store does not sell physical textbooks. Students can choose to buy books from our online partner.
How Do I Know What Textbooks I Need?
The University Store’s textbook portal is tied to your single sign-on (SSO) Students
can find information about their course materials through Student Information
Online (SIO), or through their class syllabus. Please check your syllabus to see if
your instructor intends to provide your course materials through other means
(Canvas, PDFs, course packet, etc.)
The University Store at Carnegie Mellon University has partnered with faculty and publishers to provide many required digital course materials by the first day of class at a significantly reduced price. Digital textbooks are integrated directly into the corresponding Canvas course, giving students day one access to their materials as soon as the instructor opens the course. If enrolled in a CMU Complete course, there’s no need to purchase course materials in advance. Students have until the add/drop date for the term to decide whether to keep access to the digital textbook or opt out. If you choose to keep access after the two-week trial, the cost will be conveniently billed to your student account at the predetermined price.
How Does It Work?
Faculty selects digital course materials to offer via CMU Complete
Students receive access through Canvas by Day 1 of the semester
Students who remain opted-in by the add/drop date are billed to their student account.
Students who opt out by the add/drop date for the term are not charged
Please Note: Students who opt out are still responsible for obtaining any required course materials.
